DIGITAL LEARNING SPACES
Spaces designed for more than lessons. Designed for what comes next.
Your Sixth Form environment should prepare you for more than your next examination. It should give you opportunities to create, collaborate, experiment and develop the skills and independence you’ll need beyond school.
That’s why, as we develop BOA Digital Sixth Form, we’re also developing a new generation of specialist digital learning environments. Our vision is to create spaces that bring together academic learning, specialist technology, creativity and real-world experience, giving students opportunities to apply what they learn in ways that feel relevant to university, apprenticeships and the workplace.
Our plans are currently being developed and include proposed dedicated environments for Tech Repair, Game Design, Cyber Security and Digital Media Production, alongside high-performance gaming PCs, Virtual Reality equipment and other specialist digital technology.
These won’t simply be classrooms with more technology. They’ll be spaces designed around what you can do with it.
Learning spaces inspired by industry
Why should every classroom look the same when the universities, workplaces and industries you’re preparing to enter don’t?
Our vision is to create distinctive environments inspired by different areas of the digital world. As a Sixth Form student, you’ll increasingly be expected to take ownership of your learning, work independently and collaborate with others. Our specialist spaces are being designed to support that transition, allowing students to move between expert teaching, independent study, collaborative projects, practical challenges and industry-inspired briefs.
A lesson might begin with a problem and develop into a team challenge, a prototype, a piece of code, a digital production or an idea that needs to be tested and improved.
This is where knowledge becomes experience.
Tech Repair Lab: Diagnose. Repair. Rebuild.
Imagine taking a device apart, diagnosing a fault, replacing components and bringing it back to life. Our proposed Tech Repair Lab will provide a practical environment where Sixth Form students can explore hardware, systems, troubleshooting and repair. Rather than simply learning how technology works, you’ll have opportunities to get inside it, investigate problems and develop practical technical expertise.
The space also has the potential to connect digital skills with sustainability. Students could explore how technology can be repaired, reused and given a second life, developing valuable technical and problem-solving skills while considering the environmental impact of our increasingly digital world.
Don't just use technology. Understand it.
Game Design: Imagine. Build. Play. Improve.
Game development brings together coding, storytelling, art, design, sound, mathematics, psychology and business. It is a powerful example of how technical knowledge and creativity combine within the modern digital industries.
Our proposed Game Design space, supported by dedicated high-performance gaming PCs and specialist software, will give Sixth Form students opportunities to explore the journey from an initial idea through design and development to testing and refinement. The technology will also support areas beyond gaming, including 3D design, coding, simulation, digital production and immersive experiences.
You’ll be encouraged to look beyond playing digital experiences and begin thinking like the people who design, develop and create them.
What could you create?
Cyber Security: Think. Protect. Defend.
Cyber security is one of the defining challenges of an increasingly connected world. Our proposed Cyber Security space will provide an environment where students can explore how devices, systems, networks and data are protected.
You could investigate vulnerabilities, analyse simulated threats and explore how organisations identify and respond to digital risks. In doing so, you’ll develop the logical thinking, curiosity, problem-solving and ethical awareness that underpin further study and careers within cyber security and the wider technology sector.
The ambition is to move beyond simply learning about cyber security and give you opportunities to think and work like a digital professional.
Digital Media Production: Create. Capture. Communicate.
The digital economy isn’t only built with code. It is also built with stories, images, sound, video, design and ideas.
Our proposed Digital Media Production space will provide an environment where Sixth Form students can develop ideas into high-quality digital products. Using specialist technology and software, you’ll be able to develop skills in areas such as filming, editing, graphics, audio and digital storytelling, experiencing the creative journey from initial concept through to finished production.
Whether creating content for entertainment, marketing, social media or other digital platforms, you’ll explore how technology, creativity and communication combine to reach an audience – while developing work and experiences that can contribute to your future portfolio.
Don't just consume content. Create it.
Virtual Reality: Step beyond the screen
Our Virtual Reality equipment adds another dimension to the Sixth Form experience, providing opportunities to explore immersive environments and investigate how VR is being used beyond gaming in areas such as design, simulation, training and digital storytelling.
But specialist digital education shouldn’t simply be about experiencing the latest technology. We want you to question it, experiment with it and explore what you could create with it.
The technology will continue to change. Developing the confidence to learn, adapt and explore is what will prepare you for whatever comes next.
Digital across your Sixth Form experience
You don’t need to study Computer Science to benefit from being part of a specialist digital Sixth Form.
Our ambition is for digital technology to connect subjects, projects and experiences across our curriculum. A Business student might investigate how AI and data are transforming companies. A History student could interrogate digitised archives and consider how evidence can be authenticated in the age of AI. A Physics student might use digital modelling and simulation. A Media student could develop a professional digital campaign.
This is an important part of the BOA Digital difference. Technology isn’t confined to one subject, one qualification or one specialist room. It’s part of the environment in which you learn.
Build more than qualifications
By the time you leave BOA Digital Sixth Form, we want you to have more than a set of examination results.
We want you to be able to talk about what you created, the problems you solved, the technology you explored, the projects you completed and the skills you developed. These are the experiences that can help you make the transition to university, a higher or degree apprenticeship, employment or your next stage of specialist study.
Our digital spaces are being designed with that destination in mind. Not technology for technology’s sake. Technology that helps you learn, create and prepare for what comes next.
