Digital Systems and Data

Provisional Qualification: Level 3 V Level

The proposed course content and exam board are provisional and may be subject to change before the start of the course.

Digital Systems and Data is a new V Level for first teaching from September 2027. The final awarding organisation, detailed specification and assessment arrangements for BOA Digital remain provisional and will be confirmed before the start of the course.

Understand systems. Work with data. Solve real digital problems.

Digital Systems and Data is a new applied Level 3 qualification designed for students who want to understand how digital systems operate, how organisations use data and how digital solutions can be developed to meet real user needs.

V Levels combine subject knowledge with applied, work-related learning. The qualification is designed to be equivalent in size to one A Level and can be studied alongside A Levels and other funded Level 3 qualifications, creating a flexible route for students who want to keep both academic and vocational progression options open.

What will I study?

The national subject content includes digital systems and their components, data and information, cyber security, system configuration and testing, problem-solving and solution design, usability and accessibility, and the ethical and responsible use of digital technologies.

Students apply this knowledge to authentic work-related purposes. These include preparing, analysing, interpreting and presenting data to support decision-making, and applying security protocols and interpreting system information to identify and escalate cyber security concerns.

The qualification also includes an applied option focused either on preparing and configuring digital systems to meet user needs or on designing and creating a digital solution. The final option delivered at BOA Digital will be confirmed as the qualification specification and our curriculum are finalised.

How will I study?

Digital Systems and Data combines technical understanding with practical application. You work with realistic digital scenarios, analyse information, make decisions and apply your knowledge to defined user and organisational needs.

The course develops critical, analytical and logical thinking alongside problem-solving, communication and collaboration. You also consider issues that matter in modern digital organisations, including accessibility, privacy, responsible use of AI, cyber security, data quality and sustainability.

How will the course be assessed?

As a new qualification for September 2027, detailed assessment arrangements are still being finalised by awarding organisations. The V Level framework is designed to assess both core knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge to work-related purposes. BOA Digital will publish the confirmed assessment structure once the final specification for our chosen awarding organisation is available.

Where could Digital Systems and Data take me?

The V Level provides a broad foundation for progression to higher-level study and apprenticeships across areas including computing, information technology, data science and related digital disciplines. It is particularly suited to students who want to understand digital technology in an applied context without specialising too early in a single occupational role.

At BOA Digital, it provides a natural bridge between classroom learning and the digital systems, data and technologies used by modern organisations.

ANALYSE. PROTECT. CONFIGURE. SOLVE.
